BALDUR SCHOOL PROFILE

Baldur School is a Kindergarten to Senior 4 School with a population of 144 students.    Baldur School recognizes the importance of ensuring that all students have the opportunities necessary to improve their learning and development to ensure well-rounded individuals. Our strength lies in the area of academic excellence. We have an enviable record of outstanding results in provincial standards testing.  Our goal is to provide the maximum educational and extra curricular opportunities for our students.

Courses Offered
As per provincial curriculum we offer all 17 of the compulsory credits required to meet standards along with a variety of supplementary and optional credits to meet the provincial regulations of 30 high school credits.

Cultural / Community Highlights

  • Successful K to grade 8 Christmas concert
  • Cooperation of students in grades 7 to 12, their parents, and staff to organize a community fall supper
  • Interaction of the grade 5 & 6 students with the residents of our Manor on a monthly basis
  • Scheduled field trips for specific cultural events for students in grades 9 to 12 (ie Manitoba Theatre Centre)
  • Cooperation between our local Economic Development Council, Communities in Bloom committee, and our middle years’ students to assist in various projects to beautify the community and school grounds
  • Involvement in International Exchange Program
  • Student participation in annual Terry Fox Run events
  • Monthly “Funky Friday” – involvement of staff & students in activities for a worthwhile charity. Over $10000 donated since its inception.
  • Remembrance Day Services held annually at school which involves students & the members of the community

  • Very active Parent Advisory Council
  • Community offers full range of businesses (grocery, post office, hardware, newspaper, restaurants, gas station) as well as recreational and cultural opportunities (ice skating rink, curling rink, museum, gym)

Arts programming and Highlights

  • Participation of elementary and middle years’ students in Visual and Speech Arts  sections of the Tiger Hills Music and Drama Festival
  • Artists in the School program utilized, promoting drawing/painting, working with clay, music, etc. for the K to grade 8 students
  • Drama production, especially as noted for the annual Christmas concert
  • Private Music class program
  • Student painted murals throughout the hallways in school
  • Baldur’s annual “Music in the Park” showcasing local talent
  • High School students travel to Winnipeg annually to watch a production at MTC.

Sports Programs

  • Middle Years’ students weekly Intramural program during lunch hour
  • Participation of the middle years’ students in divisional sports (league and one-day)
  • High school sports program in most MHSAA categories, with current strengths in basketball and baseball
  • Cooperation between school and community to utilize the Recreation Center (curling and hockey ice surfaces) on an ad-hoc basis
  • Swim program for Gr. 1-4 students organized by Parent Advisory Council
  • Middle Years annual overnight ski trip
